Central Avenue Returning to Pre-Red Line Conditions

Return of 4-Way Stops

MKNA has received an update from the the Department of Public works in regards to the temporary changes made to Central Avenue during Red Line Construction. 

At this time, DPW aims to have all 2-to-4-way conversions returned 4-way stops prior to the first day of the IPS school year on Monday, August 5th. These conversion back to 4-way stops will happen at: 

  • 40th Street
  • 56th Street
  • 58th Street 

Comprehensive List of Updates

DPW will restore Central Avenue’s traffic control to pre-Red Line Construction conditions following the completion of Red Line construction on College Avenue –  probable in mid-to-late August. DPW will update MKNA as the schedule firms up:

  • 4-way stops restored at 40th, 56th and 58th and cross traffic signage removed (by August 5)
  • Temporary signals at 42nd, 49th, 52nd, 54th, 56th, and 57th turned to red flash
  • Stop signs restored at 42nd, 49th, 52nd, 54th, 56th, and 57th
  • Speed tables and associated signage removed
  • Temporary signals at 42nd, 49th, 52nd, 54th, 56th, and 57th removed
  • Red flashing beacons restored at 42nd, 49th, 52nd, 54th and 57th
  • Pavement markings are restored
  • 38th, 46th and Kessler signals remain unchanged
