Representatives of Citizens Action Coalition are currently canvassing neighborhoods across Indianapolis. Here’s some information that may be helpful if you are unfamiliar with Citizens Action Coalition and/or their current case against proposed utility rate increases.

Citizens Action Coalition has advocated for four decades on behalf of Hoosiers on issues regarding energy policy, utility reform, health care, pollution prevention, and family farms. In order to achieve the objective to protect consumers in Indiana, CAC’s activities include performing research, carrying out public education campaigns, organizing citizens, creating public awareness, lobbying legislators, intervening in utility cases before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, and litigating when necessary.

In December 2014, IPL filed their first base rate case (Cause No. 44576) before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) since April of 1994.  IPL is asking the IURC for permission to raise their annual operating revenues by $67.8 million, significantly increase the amount you pay regardless of how much energy you use, and raise other fees by as much as 220%.
