Water and gas utility re-locations on College Avenue will begin in October or November, in advance of Red Line construction.

Crews will be relocating sections of water main and/or fire hydrants at the following intersections over the next several months, with gas main re-locations to follow:

  • 42nd Street
  • 44th Street
  • 46th Street
  • 49th Street
  • 52nd Street
  • 54th Street
  • 56th Street
  • 57th Street
  • 61st Street

Work at each location is expected to take approximately 14 days. Where necessary flashing arrow boards, flaggers, and/or traffic officers will be used to divert vehicles around work zones. Travelers should expect possible on-street parking restrictions, traffic pattern shifts, or partial lane closures with flaggers. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction of College Avenue through the morning and evening peak hours. Water shut offs will be necessary to facilitate these re-locations, but will occur overnight.  Property owners will be notified in advance by the utility if their service will be affected.

  1. In light of this information above, what is MKNA doing to slow traffic on affected streets in addition to Central Avenue? I am referencing north/south streets such as Penn and Washington Blvd. where the speed limit is 30 MPH. Also, there should be additional stop signs at 40th to slow traffic down.
