UPDATE— January 26, 2015

Councillors voted to POSTPONE their vote on Digital Billboard Ordinance, Prop 250-2014. Thanks to everyone who attended recent community meetings and hearing.

Details on the City Council Monday, January 26 meeting via our friends at Midtown Indianapolis, Inc: “Tonight city councillors heard from 37 neighborhood organizations and rightfully voted to postpone a proposal to lift the ban on digital billboards. This does not end the need for public dialogue but it certainly extends the timeframe to enable residents to come forward and express their opinions and concerns. On the half of the neighborhoods we work with and our Board of Directors we are grateful for the council’s foresight and recognition of the importance of this issue. Testimony tonight called for a return to the normalization of the process related to revising zoning ordinances. We are hopeful that the council and the billboard industry and residents alike can agree that this process rightfully belongs on the same trajectory as Rezone Indy and that the department of Metropolitan Development will seriously take up this issue and analyze it comprehensively in the same fashion afforded to the city’s other zoning ordinances. Thank you to our colleagues and other neighborhoods and to the many residents that expressed their thoughts on this matter we are grateful that this important Issue will continue to receive the attention that it deserves.”

Historic Urban Neighborhoods of Indianapolis (HUNI) has demonstrated a leadership role informing residents about the emergence of the proposal. Read the HUNI news articles for a recap of residents’ activities concerning the issue. The HUNI articles also provide details of what specifically you can do to oppose or support Prop 250-2014.
