You Are More Than Essential
Sara Fleury is an MK resident with a big heart.
She considers herself lucky to be able to maintain her full-time role from the safety of her home. She wants to do more to encourage others to do their part in staying home in support of those who have been deemed essential.
“There are so many people that don’t have the choice to stay home because they perform “essential” work. Our doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers are on the front lines of a worldwide pandemic while we are sitting at home feeling helpless. I just kept saying to myself: ‘there has to be something I can do.’ I decided that if I felt that way, I’m sure others felt that way too so I decided to design a sign to post in our yards for those essential workers to know we are grateful and staying home for them,” says Sara.
Sara hopped on Facebook to share her idea and crowdsource what the signs should say. In minutes she had received a number of wonderful suggestions from neighbors for messages to place on the sign:
“Thank everyone for doing their part! #WeAreInThisTogether”
“It is Essential to Thank the Essential”
“Stay Home! They Can’t! #ThankTheEssential”
Through conversation with community members, the following is the final design:
With help from the Meridian-Kessler Neighborhood Association, the final product will be printed and available for purchase and delivered directly to your yard (within Midtown: Meridian-Kessler, Broad Ripple, Butler Tarkington, Crown Hill, Mapleton Fall Creek) without any contact. If you live outside of Midtown, no-contact pick-up can be arranged at the MKNA offices located at 40th & Meridian Street.
Signs cost $5 and that includes one, two-sided sign with H-stake as well as delivery. Want to do more? Additional financial contributions will be used to deliver a hot meal to area hospitals from Soupremacy, a local restaurant.
