The North Split Project
According to www.northsplit.com, “The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is preparing to reconstruct the I-65/I-70 North Split Interchange in downtown Indianapolis. The project will repair deteriorating bridges, upgrade pavement conditions in the area, lessen congestion and improve safety. No start date for construction has been determined.”
That being said, there are a number of organizations and people including HUNI (Historic Urban Neighborhoods of Indianapolis), Kevin Osburn of Rundell Ernstberger Associates (Lead Designer of both the Indy Cultural Trail and IndyGo Transit Center), Indiana Landmarks and others that would like to alternative designs for the interstate improvements. This “coalition” has aptly named itself “RETHINK 65-70 / REBUILD IT RIGHT.” The Meridian-Kessler Neighborhood Association will sit on a Community Advisory Committee to learn more and contribute to the conversation.
If you’re interested in participating in the RETHINK 65-70/REBUILD IT RIGHT campaign, follow the instructions below to write a letter to our Governor expressing your opinion. A template has been included below:
All residents are being asked to write a personal letter to the Governor asking him to create an independent panel with the City of Indianapolis and the Metropolitan Planning Organization to focus on a broader vision that goes beyond vehicular travel and includes economic development, historic preservation, environmental and social justice considerations that achieve a great vision for Indianapolis and Central Indiana. The letter should be as individual and personal as you can make it. Please sign your name and address and mail it to:
