North United Methodist Church Holy Week

 In Bulletin

The congregation of North United Methodist Church would like to extend an invitation to everyone to celebrate the most important week of the Christian year, Holy Week, with them at their church at 3808 N. Meridian St. in Indianapolis. The church is located north of downtown at the intersection of Meridian St. and 38th St.

This Sunday, March 25, the church will celebrate Palm Sunday with three services. The first two will be at 8:30 a.m. and at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. A Taizé worship service will also be offered at 5 p.m. in the building’s chapel, as it is on the final Sunday of every month.

On Thursday, March 29, the church will celebrate Holy Thursday at 7 p.m. in its chapel. This service commemorates the day Jesus celebrated the Last Supper with his disciples.

Two services will be offered the following day, Good Friday, on Friday, March 30, at noon and 7 p.m. At noon the church will host the annual Community Good Friday service of intercessory prayers for the community, the nation and the world. At 7 p.m. the church will host “A Service of Darkness” by the late Dale Wood, a renowned American composer, organist and choral director. The program commemorates the suffering and death of Christ based on the ancient Tenebrae through seven choral meditations. The noon service will be held in the chapel and the evening service will be held in the sanctuary.

Finally, on Easter Sunday, April 1, the church will hold a communion service at 8:30 a.m. and a service featuring special music at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary.    The latter will feature the church’s Carolers group (kindergartners through second graders) along with music by its adult Cathedral Singers choir, which will be accompanied by the church’s powerful Holt organ designed by the Kimball Company. Senior Pastor Darren Cushman Wood will preach from 1 Corinthians 15:1-11 and Mark 16:1-8 with a sermon entitled “Answer to Prayer.”
