Committee Meeting
The MKNA Land Use Committee exists to assist property owners in the navigation of the City of Indianapolis development process while maintaining the quality and consistency of architecture in Meridian-Kessler. The Land Use Committee consists of MK residents and business owners with expertise in various areas included building and landscape architecture, law, etc.
Prior to a property variance – both residential and/or commercial – being heard by the City of Indianapolis Board of Zoning Appeal (BZA), homeowners will have their petition reviewed by the Land Use Committee. The review of the project gives the committee and neighboring property owners the opportunity to view plans and ask questions. When reviewing plans, the Committee references the current MKNA Land Use Plan to stay consistent in its recommendations.
The MKNA Land Use Committee encourages builders, architects, homeowners, etc. to come to the Land Use Committee prior to applying for a variance with the City of Indianapolis in order to keep project timelines on time; i.e. once a variance is filed with the City of Indianapolis, a hearing date is set. If a MKNA Land Use Committee meeting is not scheduled prior to the hearing a date, a continuance will be filed to the next month.
